The Dark Divine - Bree Despain

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.
As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel's dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.
- Synposis from the book

I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading this book.  I'll admit, the first thing that came to mind when my daughter presented me with this book to read was . . . what is up with the bold print and large font?  What am I getting myself into?  I'll also admit, that it took me a bit to get into this book.  I think the print in itself was throwing off my reading groove.
BUT (!) get past that, and this book was actually not bad.  Paranormal Romance (check), bad-boy (check), unconditional love (ummm check).  Sounds familiar you ask?  Think Twilight-esque.  With some slight differences.  As you read the book, you'll find yourself comparing the two stories.  Despain does have a way with making her characters come to life in her writing.  You will come to adore her characters, and enjoy the love story that unfolds.
Two words Ah- Mazing. Or maybe that's just one word... ah! Either way the book was everything I could have asked for and more! I had seen it every time I would search for a book at the bookstore but I would always pass The Dark Divine up for something else, well sadly those books don't even compare to the novel. From the first page I was hooked, I spent two consecutive nights reading before I finished. My friends even began laughing at me when I spent all my time reading during lunch hour (and even during class...), I just couldn't help it. The plot itself I found very interesting, especially with the fact that Daniel had just popped back into Grace's life after years of being gone- yet nobody wants to get involved with him, especially Grace's older brother Jude who thinks of Daniel as somebody who's already dead to him. I mean harsh much? The two used to be best friends.
At certain points of the novel I will say that it did begin to slow down and I would start to doubt that anything exciting would happen.  I have got to say that I think Bree Despain did that on purpose because the moment you start to think that it's slowing down the novel suddenly takes an unexpected twist. I would end up putting the novel down and think 'That just happened?' before continuing on reading. I loved how Despain's writing style managed to stir up emotions in me.  I would find myelf annoyed with Grace for being a stalker, I would hate Daniel for when he would suddenly shun Grace and of course her brother who tried to ruin Grace's romance with Daniel. Though at first I was thinking this was playing out like a teen romance without any paranormalcy *Sad face*, then I end up getting to learn that Grace is forbidden to be with Daniel.
What?! Why? Well I'm not telling you because I really don't want to ruin the surprise for most of you lovelies, though I would recommend this to honestly anybody who wants a paranormal romance with so many dark unexpected twists that your bound to love it. I have to say that this is one of the few novels I've read that are ranked up there with the Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games. Did I forget to mention that it's ah-mazing?

Well I know it was compared to Nightshade series somehow which is nothing like twilight saga and a Ren vs Daniel contest, so I hope it is as good as your saying because right now, nothing can top the Nightshade series by andrea creamer. Not even Twilight. That series was so action packed, romantic, and steamy. You get the best of all three worlds. I'm crossing my fingers for this one.
